Can you work in care without a care certificate?

Yes. You can usually start working in a care role without having completed the Care Certificate. However, employers may require new staff to complete the relevant Care Certificate standards as part of induction. The Care Certificate is designed to support workers who provide direct care.

How long is a care certificate valid?

The Care Certificate does not have a fixed expiry date. However, employers should ensure that staff maintain their knowledge and skills through ongoing learning, supervision, and development. Individual employers or organisations may also set their own refresher or renewal requirements.

Is a care certificate the same as level 2?

No. The Care Certificate and a Level 2 qualification are different. The Care Certificate covers 15 standards for people new to care, while a Level 2 qualification is a regulated vocational qualification. Completing the Care Certificate does not automatically give you a Level 2 qualification.

What are the 6 C's in care certificate?

The six Cs are care, compassion, competence, communication, courage, and commitment. They describe important values and behaviours expected when providing high-quality care. These principles encourage workers to treat people with dignity, communicate effectively, develop their skills, and take responsibility for the care they provide.

Can I complete this course online?

Yes. The knowledge-based learning for Care Certificate Standard 2 can be completed online, allowing you to study at your own pace. However, completing the online course alone does not necessarily mean you have completed the full Care Certificate, as workplace assessment and employer sign-off may also be required.
